Add an "arrive by" option
Most trip planners let you choose the "arrive by" option when selecting the trip time (e.g. say I want to get to a meeting downtown for 10am). hbus should have this option as well.

Add multiple trip options
Sometimes you want more than one trip option! For example, there's many ways to get to downtown Halifax from the north end via the bus (e.g. the #80 on North and Robie, the #7 on Gottingen and North, etc.).
It would be good if hbus let you choose from among these possibilities.49 votes -

It’s definitely possible to do this with CloudMade’s amazing maps API, though I’m not sure how to create an intuitive web based API around this. Tous Azimuts (http://www.stm.info/english/azimuts/a-index.htm) in Montreal operates via point & click and the user experience is awful.
If you have any suggestions on how to do this in a user friendly way I’m all ears.

Include suburban areas. (Like Bayers Lake.)
It seems some suburban areas aren't included in the map. Bayer's Lake Business Park is a mjor suburban shopping area, and the application won't accept any locations for it.

Add an option to only use accessible low-floor buses
For people with limited mobility, it would be good to have the option of planning trips that only involve buses which have low floors (e.g. the 3 and the 7).
This could be a simple checkbox in the route planning form.

let universities know about this website
When students come to Halifax from away to attend university for the first time, they often don't know how to get around. It would be great to include an ad for this website in "frosh" packages.

consider all bus routes
Although this is a very good idea, there are numerous factors you don't consider. I plugged in my daily route which i have mastered now to see what this would come up with, and not only did your plan get me there later, but I would have me walk for a lot of my trip, which is not necessary. I'm not against walking, but in the winter, or rain, it would not be fun. Plus I would do most of the walking in burnside, which for the most part doesn't have sidewalks, and your route had me crossing over burnside… more

Most convenient stop
Starting from Pepperell/Vernon to Inglis, the stop suggested is Robie/Shirley (correct). When I enter a street number with Pepperell, I'm sent to Quinpool/Robie, further away, for the same route. This needs to be fixed.

Mobile version of site for Blackberry
The iPhone version of the site doesn't work on browsers such as the BlackBerry. We'll need to create a stripped down version of the site (probably very simple) for that platform.

have some sort of an include ferry option.
It is usually way nicer to take the ferry than to transfer at the bridge terminal and go across the bridge.

Show departure times
List the next 3 upcoming departure times. The paths may vary, so make them links to the new path/time.

Create an orginal logo
Currently, the website (at first glance) looks like one of those cheap websites with links and ads that you accidentally stumble upon when you mistype in a real website (for example, www.theview.org). It's such a great idea, and works excellently so far, I would hate for people to second guess using it because they might not think it's the "real" hbus.ca.

Tell me when the buses have stopped running.
If I put in a time like 1:30am, it tells me to catch the bus 5 hours later. It would be great if it tells you the buses have stopped and you'll have to walk or take a cab.

Start with locations in the official gude, add gps later
Use the well known locations in the official Riders Guide as the starting data set. Use complete GPS info later to fill in the gaps.

Have an "avoid that route/bus"
Kind of like mapquest. For example, if you don't want to take bus 59, click avoid, and it will show you an alternate route and bus to take

Missing routes
Entered starting addresses on Wamphray Cres (#62 )and Ellenvale Ave (#58,62,72)in Dart . Both suggested walking long distances to catch the #10. So I assume that all routes just aren't in yet.

Indeed, none of those routes (with the exception of the #58, in one direction) are in yet.
